Affordable Housing Zoning Overlay Proposal
We can increase affordable and equitable housing all throughout the city by taking a thoughtful approach. The existing zoning may be exclusionary, but it’s not useless. It can be used as a framework for a more equitable solution. This plan takes 33 normal and 15 special district zones and combines them into 8 affordable zones, each with their own bonuses for building 100% affordable housing. Bonuses are designed to take advantage of the non-conformity of existing buildings to both increase density while maintaining the identity of the neighborhood.
